 | Mission: Our mission is to teach students who have distinct learning styles, ignite their potential, and inspire academic and social success.
Guiding Principles
- The academic, social and emotional needs of our students come first.
- We accept, value, and celebrate differences. Respect, for self and others, forms the foundation of our community.
- We value excellence and honest self-assessment in everything we do.
- We believe learning is a journey in which obstacles can become opportunities for growth, and direction is more important than distance.
- We encourage students to own their academic and social strengths and challenges, and practice self-advocacy without arrogance or apology.
- We replace discouragement with hope by creating a structured, systematic and supportive learning environment where students appreciate their academic and social potential.
- We recognize that a clearly articulated, school-wide affective (social and emotional) curriculum is as important as academics.
- We design our programs using proven practices, current research and self-evaluation.
- We seek collaboration and welcome partnership to advance the field of education.
- We are committed to reframing the conversation about education: how students learn, how families are engaged, and how the global community views the acquisition of knowledge.
Vision: One day all students who learn differently will have the opportunity, encouragement and resources to fulfill their potential and benefit society.
Slogan: Where differences are not disabilities; where great minds don't think alike.

| | Lawrence School is prominently featured in the book Leap of Reason, published in May 2011. According to lead author Mario Morino, response to the book thus far has surpassed expectations and its messages have been extremely well-received by leaders in the social, private, and public sectors.
"A well-defined and accepted set of guiding principles is important to any organization... Northeast Ohio’s Lawrence School... did an outstanding job in this regard. You can see the clarity of the school’s vision, mission, and guiding principles on its website... There’s nothing pro forma about these statements. The leadership team—staff and board—invested three months in debating and fleshing them out. Once that comprehensive process was complete, every member of the leadership team took the time to assimilate these definitions and then work to instill them throughout the full faculty, administration, and student body. The definitions are no longer words on paper but principles upheld by everyone in the school."

“Passionate and provocative... Mario’s central idea—that nonprofits can vastly improve their impact by more rigorously identifying and then measuring the outcomes they seek—puts him at the head of a wave of thinking that is beginning to transform the social sector.”
