Great job to all high school students for making midterms and finals week run so smoothly. Second quarter grades have now closed, and grade reports will be mailed home sometime next week.  Grades will also be posted online on www.classroll.com.

Run for Lawrence: School Named an"Official Charity of the 2007 Cleveland Marathon"

Lawrence School would like to offer cross country for Upper School students in the fall of 2007! To make this team a reality, we are asking interested staff, students, family and friends to consider participating and raising money at one of the events associated with the 30th Annual Cleveland Marathon, Half Marathon and 10k on May 20, 2007. (Mileage is 26.2 miles, 13.1 miles and 6.2 miles, respectively).  Lawrence School has been named as "an official charity of the 2007 Rite-Aid Cleveland Marathon" and we need as many participants as possible to help us meet the goal!

You do not need to be an experienced runner to participate. Walkers are welcome, and training plans are available for those who want to run. Special "Team Lawrence" shirts or signs will be available.

If interested, contact Courtney Baker at cbaker@lawrence.pvt.k12.oh.us or ext. 3106. Participants will receive more detailed information after Winter Break. We will also be forming a "Lawrence School Scream Team" to cheer on our runners/walkers and raise awareness.  Stay tuned for more details!

Head Notes
Yesterday I received a holiday card which read “PEACE, JOY, COOKIES”.  The more I thought about it, the better I liked the sentiment. We live in a world where war and hatred are part of the daily news; where many innocent people lack the basic elements of human survival and decency, and where fear and discrimination are the daily fare of many, many people. The holidays give us pause to hope for a better world and to think about what each of us can do to help make a better future for us all.

At the same time that we may despair about conditions over which we feel we have little influence, we DO have the comfort and safety of our families to nurture and protect us. And the holidays are a wonderful time of family joy and sharing, warmth and laughter. I hope that each of you will find many ways during the coming weeks to sneak in those special moments with your family which will nourish you during the coming winter, and that you will find yourself at the end of the holiday period satisfied and rested instead of exhausted and frenzied.

And the cookies… it seems to me that the cookies are the part where we treat ourselves to slightly sinful pleasures regardless of the calories – just for the pure joy of the experience....

So, I hope that during this holiday, you will be thoughtful about your place in the world – and your power to make small changes which matter to others. Revel in the love and sharing with family and friends which is the true blessing of the holidays, and treat yourself to a few delicious pleasures – and only you can choose what they should be.

On behalf of all the staff and board at
Lawrence, I wish you a warm, wonderful and safe holiday!
