Snow Days

As mother nature has reminded us, winter weather has the potential to close school. As we split into two campuses, please be aware that the Lower and Upper schools will not necessarily be closed at the same time. You should tune in to the local TV news stations for school closing announcements, and please be sure to check more then one station if you do not initially see Lawrence School listed (one local station neglected to list Lawrence this week). In addition, teachers will call the homes of students in their homeroom/advisory in the event of school closing.

Head Notes
By now, I hope you have learned that Lou Salza, Head of ASSETS School in Honolulu, Hawaii, will become the new Head of Lawrence School effective August 1, 2007. After 17 years leading Lawrence, I could not have chosen an educator who is better prepared to carry the school into its next phase of development. I am thrilled to welcome Lou, and his wife Dell, to Lawrence and Northeast Ohio! He is in the first rank of professionals dedicating their professional careers to assuring that bright students will have every opportunity to achieve success - in their academic and social lives.
Several years ago when my husband and I traveled to Hawaii, I arranged to spend a day at ASSETS. My motivation was the understanding that I would find an innovative and rigorous high school curriculum. I did see that. I also saw a warm and nurturing school at all grade levels; an environment which was clearly student-centered and where the experience of learning was positive and joyful. The community at ASSETS and the community at Lawrence have so much in common that it is easy for me to understand why Lou felt an affinity for our program and has decided to make Lawrence his next home.
When you have an opportunity to meet Lou, you will learn that the warmth and welcome at the core of the ASSETS program came from the passion and energy with which he accepts the challenge of leadership. Lou is coming to Lawrence because of the quality of the programming we have developed and the culture of caring and respect we have nurtured. With Lou at the helm, things will only continue to get better and better. I know you will join me in welcoming him with enthusiasm to the Lawrence School family!
