Students Celebrate Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week

As part of National Red Ribbon Week, Lawrence students joined others across America in committing themselves to living drug-free lives. Students read Red Ribbon: The Story of Hope, wore ribbons as a pledge to stay drug-free, and participated in "theme days" to honor the drug-free initiative.

Head Notes
By now I hope you have received an invitation to the Lawrence School "Tour of the Barcelona" Exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Art. This event presents an opportunity for Lawrence to highlight the incredible creativity of our students. Picasso, one of the featured artists in this exhibit, was himself learning disabled. To prepare for this exhibit, our students have all studied Picasso and modernism. Lawrence uses DBAE, Discipline Based Art Education, as a framework for presenting artists in the context of the world in which they live(d) and work(ed). This process allows students to study a school of art or artist, view and discuss characteristic works and discover the common characteristics.  After this study, Lawrence's budding artists experiment with self expression in the style they have studied.

Picasso is a particularly interesting artist to study because his career spanned several phases which were quite different from each other.  As I looked through our students' art projects I was struck by their varied views of Picasso's art.  Representative samples of our students' art will be on display at the Cleveland Institute of Art during the Picasso event. I urge you to consider joining us for a fun and festive evening to enjoy Picasso and Lawrence students... creativity of the past AND the present.

If you need an extra RSVP form or require more information on the event, please contact Courtney Baker at x3106.
