Episode 5: The Secret Code of Reading

Did you know there really was a "secret code" to reading? When we were children, most of us didn't need to know what the code was because we were wired in a way that made reading acquisition come naturally. We simply needed proper guidance from a teacher with reading materials at the right level. But not everyone learns to read this way. There are MANY children who CAN learn to read – if they are taught in a way that matches how they are wired to learn.

What is this way? It's a multisensory, systematic approach to reading that teaches the "secret code" step by step. At Lawrence, we call this CodeBreakers.

About Jayne Eiben

The LionShare Podcast is hosted by Jayne Eiben, who is the school's Advancement Director as well as an Alumni parent. Prior to joining Lawrence in 2006, Mrs. Eiben taught middle school English and social studies at Laurel School. When her sons were young, she worked as a freelance journalist writing articles for the local NPR station, newspapers and magazines. After college she worked as a sports agent and events coordinator at IMG where she represented professional tennis players and ice skaters.
