During their trip to New Mexico over the summer, our Year Two GYLI (Global Youth Leadership Institute) students learned about Charity:Water – a non-profit organization that brings clean, safe drinking water to people in developing countries. They were so inspired by its mission they came up with a creative way to raise money for clean water with their own Leadership Learning Project (LLP) at Lawrence. During the 2018-19 school year, our students asked their peers to join them in donating the money they would normally spend on corsages and boutonnieres for school dances to Charity:Water. They also hosted a pancake breakfast for water, and had a GYLI thanksgiving. These students have long surpassed their goal of $1,000, and are continuing to push forward to raise even more. If you are interested in donating, you may do so here.
BETA Club Breakfast Cart
The Breakfast cart will be available for students to purchase juices, muffins and granola bars daily with doughnuts offered each Friday. Prices range from 50 cents to $1.00. Members of the Junior BETA Club can purchase a Black BETA crewneck sweatshirt for $20.00 sizes range from S to XL adult sizes with the school logo and Beta script printed on them. Checks can be made out to Lawrence School.
Job Shadowing Experience
Calling all Lawrence school families - we need your help! Each year, a portion of our high school students' curriculum involves a job exploratory component allowing them to learn about potential career areas of interest. Beginning in grade 10, sophomores complete a 1-day job shadow experience, juniors complete a 2-day job shadow experience, and seniors must complete a 10-day Senior Project internship as a graduation requirement. As more and more high schools participate in similar programs, it is becoming challenging to secure locations for our students. We are asking for your assistance and feedback if you and/or your place of employment (or other family members or friends) would be able to host our students for their sessions. We would like to cultivate an updated list of potential "employers" that our students could draw from. (Students would follow up directly with you with their specific areas of interest(s), needs, and time frames for their sessions).
If you or anyone at your place of work would be interested in participating, please complete the attached Google Form. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Lisa Brogan at 330-908-6826. We thank you in advance for your help and for supporting our students!
