Lawrence Artists Featured in Exhibition at Summit Artspace

You’re invited to see some of the latest works by Lawrence students in the “Taking Care of Our House: Communities Coming Together and Making a Difference” exhibition at Summit Artspace in Akron, on display through March 16.

Local students, teachers, and school leaders come together with the organization Art for Resistance Through Change (ART-C) in this intergenerational art exhibition to educate, inspire, and promote meaningful change.

The exhibition features the incredible artwork created by the talented students in Mrs. Joy Hall’s Advanced Studio art class, including Riley ’24, who have been invited to express their views on significant subject matters that resonate with them as adolescents in today’s world. The pieces showcase diverse perspectives, providing a unique and thought-provoking experience for all attendees.

"I get to see all of the amazing talent at Lawrence every day, so I love it when student artwork can be displayed beyond our walls,” Hall said. “I am overjoyed for my students because it is such a significant achievement to be a part of a gallery exhibition!”

Art class at Lawrence, Hall added, is a time in a student’s day to be creative and have an outlet for imagination and innovation.

“We focus on the creative process over the final product to promote exploration, risk-taking, and individual expression. With this philosophy, students feel confident and safe creating art and sharing it with others,” she said.

That includes Riley.

“I tend to overthink and judge my work too much,” she said, “but over the years, I’ve gained a lot more confidence in my work thanks to Mrs. Hall."
