Dr. Elaine Schulte earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Skidmore College and a medical degree at Albany Medical College. She completed her pediatric residency training at Albany Medical Center Hospital in 1991. She completed a preventive medicine residency in 1993, during which time she earned her master’s in public health. She then joined the faculty at Albany Medical College. During her tenure in Albany, Elaine served as the pediatric residency program director and the division chief of general pediatrics. In 1996, she founded the international adoption program, which she directed until 2007, when she moved to the Cleveland Clinic.
Elaine was the Chair of the Department of General Pediatrics at the Cleveland Clinic until 2017. During that time, in addition to her administrative responsibilities, she maintained an active clinical practice, with specific interests in learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, lead poisoning, immunizations, and residency education. She was also the Medical Director of the Adoption Program at Cleveland Clinic Children’s. Additionally, she co-founded and still co-directs the Center for Excellence in Coaching and Mentoring for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
Currently, Elaine is the Vice Chair for Academic Affairs and Faculty Development at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in the Bronx. She is responsible for overseeing the professional development of the 250 faculty members. She is also the medical director of the newly formed Adoption Program.
She is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and serves on several committees focusing on physician leadership, mentorship, and adoption. She has been a board member at Lawrence School since June 2008, serves as the school’s medical director, and is a parent of a former Lawrence School student.
